USA & Festival Newsletter - May 17, 2017

NEW YORK PanNYC – May 30 to June 5. PANIC was Great Pan’s main epiphany; he himself would panic when he created panic, and he loved it! Especially stampedes! - So register soonest (places left in NY)!
TIRESIAS – will be welcomed and consulted at this year’s Myth and Theatre Festival in Southern France. June 18 to July 2. The festival is now full, but clever gate-crashers will be interviewed closely, maybe hired…!
Seriously : Pantheatre's 2017 projects address MANTICS - the Greek word for divination. We will explore and renew the links between performance and the divinatory arts, in their very aims and in their devising procedures: voices, texts, gestures - and above all in their interpretation modes: the workings of oracles by actor-interpreters.
New York will also lend a mantic and a musical ear to the voices of the Background Vocalists- voices that know bettter...

May 30 - June 5 2017
Linda Wise and Enrique Pardo
workshops, master classes and lectures.
The voices that know better: Oracular voices. In choreographic theatre we want them to achieve divinatory rank: they are the ones who interpret the texts. Actor, hero, book, author, all have their own blueprints of interpretation, but, again, oracular voices know better. Background and underworld voices: James Hillman. The spirits of vodou are never far away. Such voices were already hovering over the chorus of Greek tragedies.

Rachel is one of the World's foremost authorities on the modern interpretation of the Tarot. A poet and novelist, and a Tarot card and comic book artist. She lectured at Pantheatre’s 1993 Festival on the ritual sexual mutilations in honor of Goddess Cibele.
Note from Rachel: "Enrique… I would take issue with the term "sexual mutilations." In my (1993) talk I tried to make the point that these were a medically primitive form of transsexual surgery, done in a state of ritual ecstasy."
EP: point taken, in militant agreement. Teiresias (your spelling) is clearly with you.

Background Vocalists : the proposal is that these choir voices carry the dramaturgical "background" power in a choreographic theater: the ones that ‘know better’.
Emotional Pornography and Democracy in America : on Bibiana Monje's performance with Enrique Pardo - and what the critics said! And a raving coda on Romeo Castellucci's latest piece.
Jodorowsky's Tweet: A refutation of a scientific broadside against, basically, theatre - and therefore also against Roy Hart's practice and philosophy of psychosomatics, which was not that far from Jodorowsky's.
